Location: Palo, Leyte, Eastern Visayas

These were juxtaposed stories of our journey towards our destination and of an enduring and inspiring love story of our couple, Arwin & Kathy. Kathy, our lovely bride who grew up in Palo, chose to work in Manila and conquered the challenges of the urban jungle and crowded metropolis. Arwin, our groom whom I learned had his origins from Camarines Sur, decided to work overseas as sound technology expert. Distance & time had tested their love; but they proved once again, the classic story of love that conquers all and endures.
The journey itself is confronted with challenges that our team had to hurdle. Weather and the circumstances brought about by the recent typhoon Yolanda posed as obstacles along our way. First, the unexpected Romualdez Airport closure in Tacloban and a short noticed maintenance and rehabilitation had forced our team to re-book our flight schedules. Instead of comfortably flying in from Manila to Tacloban, then less than an hour ride from the airport to our destination, we had to reroute and flew in at Cebu, then avail of a 2-hour fast craft ride crossing the waters of Cebu to Ormoc. As we approached the island of Cebu, we had to fly encircling the airport skies for few minutes due to bad weather and zero visibility warning of the landing strip.
Ormoc. Taking the local shuttle, it was supposedly more than 2 hours drive from the pier to Palo, Leyte. However, the heavy downpour in Ormoc was another challenge that slowed down our trip.
Weeks ahead, our team had prepared ourselves that we will be having our first hand experiences of witnessing the resilience of the people of Leyte after the wrath of the storm. There were still traces of the tragedy and the loss that people of Leyte had endured. As we surveyed the locations for our post wedding ceremony portraits and gathered the materials for our wedding photo book, my team was lucky enough that the relatives of the couple gave their time to guide us to the locations which the couple wished to have their portraits, and they also showed us the places which were heavily damaged by Yolanda and the marks that she left in the hearts of the people of Tacloban and Leyte. The tragedy and destruction were another story. The coping of the people should be a part of that story.
What gave our team the much needed energy preparing to capture an important moment for our bride and groom is the obvious glow and love sparkling in our couple's eyes. The warm acceptance of the people in the local community of the bride was remarkable.
Permit us to share with you, the joys of witnessing a story, framing it in stills, of no matter if the sky falls from heaven above, hell turns loose, Love conquers all.
